We Wear Our Sunglasses At Night.

The Wedding Singer is closed!  We have been doing this show since October 25th, so it’s crazy that I don’t have to do the running man every night anymore.  Our dressing room did a little photo installation with a sexy pair of sunglasses I had kicking around from Urban Outfitters.
Here I am in my “All About the Green” Costume

Here’s Melanie dressed as Cher.

Chelsea in her “Stripper” gear.

Katherine in her “airline stewardess” outfit.

Kristin dressed as “Linda”.  Also, the hottest lady ever.

Me dressed as Cyndi Lauper.

Chelsea rocking as side pony.

New Years Eve.

I know it’s a little late, but I wanted to share a couple of photos from my New Years Eve this year.  I actually had to work that night!  We had a show scheduled that started at 9:10.  We performed for a crowd who had paid lots of money to have a dinner, show, and special New Years celebration with the cast.  We were all geared up to perform when our lead came in and was deathly ill.  His wife, who’s also in the show, was so sick she couldn’t come in and her understudy had to go on.  So, needless to say, the energy backstage was CRAZY.

Nevertheless, the show went on.  Mr. Best Things was even in the audience which always makes me happy!  The show came down at 11:54 or something crazy like that.  We changed like mad women ( I was dressed as Cyndi Lauper.. there was no way I was ringing in the New Year dressed like that!), grabbed a glass of champagne and headed back onstage to ring in the New Year with the audience.  It was actually pretty fun considering I was at work.

After all that craziness, we headed up to Laura Mae‘s room for some casual festivities with just the cast.  Chelsea from Mixed Mediums Theatre took some photos of us!

My dress is vintage that I bought at a consignment store in South Africa about 5 years ago.  My Granny loved it.

It’s our second New Years together! How crazy is that?  Last year we were in Niagara Falls, ON.  This year, Edmonton! Crazy!

We’re so in love, eh?!

All in all, a fun New Years Eve!

Mini-Date Night.

We’re all busy. Right?  I’m constantly trying to figure out ways to spend quality time with Mr. Best Things.  Not in the car, not late at night, or early in the morning.. then when?!  Anybody have some busy people tips for lasting love?

I’ve got one for you!  When you find an hour with nothing to do, do something.  Quick, before the hour has passed you by!  We managed to make this happen the other night.  The Alberta Legislature is covered with beautiful Christmas lights, and even though Christmas is long gone now, we picked up some hot chocolate and went for a wander through the park together.

Here’s how it went down:

I had to pick up Mr. Best Things from work across the river.  I put on a cute headband (of my own creation!) just because and headed out the door.

It gets dark super early here, like 3:30 pm the sun starts going down.. I’m serious. But that means that dates that are better experienced in the dark can happen at 5 pm!  Lucky.  I drove over the river and it was such a lovely night I just had to suggest heading out for a walk.

We picked up some Startbucks hot chocolate (yum!) and parked Tommy in a very conveniently located parking lot and headed out.  Here’s the “Ledge” with only a sprinkling of Christmas lights pictured.  There were lights EVERYWHERE!

There was a huge tree in the middle with a beautiful star!  There were even speakers with Christmas tunes playing!

How beautiful is this?  All lit up!

There’s a flame that stays lit all the time to commemorate the centennial (I think.. I read the sign.. it just didn’t sink in).

There was even a skating rink!  Mr. Best Things looks cute, eh? Like a little kid!

A perfect, cheap, fun, spur of the moment mini date night!  It was so fun!  I wish we could make this happen all the time.  But I guess it wouldn’t feel so special then, right?

Do you have any tips for having fun date nights even when you’re a busy couple?

High Tea at Rutherford House

My lovely family came all the way from Ontario to visit us this Christmas!  After lots of hosting at our house, we decided to check out a local restaurant/historical building on the University of Alberta campus for some high tea.  My family is South African (and therefore quite British thanks to the whole Commonwealth thing), and we LOVE our tea.

The building was lovely!  We were seated in this sun room kind of area with tons of natural light.  There’s only space for about 6 tables worth of people.  Make reservations!

We got these lovely antique tea cups and saucers.  I loved that they were matched with their saucers but not with each other.  My dad didn’t like that.  He’s a little more traditional.

We had the Rutherford House Blend.  It was your basic black tea but just so much more amazing.  Delicious.  I had SO MUCH.

Some had milk and sugar, some just drank it black.

There were finger sandwiches and turkey pot pie and veggie puff pastries.  They were eaten before pictures could be snapped.  Delicious!  And to finish it off, traditional scones with cream and raspberry butter and a plate full of “danties”.  So delicious!

All in all, an amazing afternoon with the family.  Really, if you’re ever in Edmonton, you must go!
